CPP Central Committee Unanimously Supports Hun Manet as Future PM Candidate

PHNOM PENH: The Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has unanimously decided to endorse Hun Manet as the future candidate for Prime Minister. This decision was made during the 43rd Central Committee Meeting of the 5th Mandate of the CPP held at the party’s headquarters on Friday morning.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of the CPP, and National Assembly President, Heng Samrin, Honorary President of the CPP.

Born on 20 October 1977 during the Khmer Rouge rule of Cambodia, Hun Manet is the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, a position which he has held since 2018.

He is a three-star general and the eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen and First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen. He is married to Pich Chanmony and has two daughters and one son.

Two senior members of the CPP, the Minister of Defense, Tea Banh, and the Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, Men Sam An, were also elected as the party's Vice Presidents during the Central Committee Meeting on Friday morning. The party now has four Vice Presidents, including Senate President, Say Chhum, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Kheng.
